COVID-19 Statement:  (updated 8-27-2020)

Dear Family and Friends of St. Andrew’s:

Several months ago – in March! – the Congregation Council made the difficult, but prudent, decision to suspend any and all in-person events in our church building . this, of course, was in response to he COVID-19 Pandemic.  Since then the pandemic has continued to spread, and, in fact, seems to be accelerating in Itasca County. So, our building continues to be closed. But the church – St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church – is not shut down, as we understand that the people are the church.  YOU are the church, and the church is alive and vibrant.

We continue to live-stream worship on Facebook Live at 9:00 am each Sunday and at 6:00 pm each Wednesday.  (Just Pastor Dave, a pianist/organist, an additional singer or two and those recording the service will be present).  Additionally we will post our worship services to our website shortly after they conclude.

Bible studies, book discussion groups, council, committee, and staff meetings are happening on-line.  Vacation Bible School materials and activities were distributed and delivered to all who indicated they wanted to participate, together with the encouragement to take in the videos posted online.  Our Children, Youth and Family Team, together with our Director of Children Youth and Family Ministries, Nikki Rud,  are preparing very much the same approach for Sunday School.

FINK – our confirmation ministry for 7th, 8th and 9th grade students will take place online as we “gather” for RECHARGE Worship on Facebook, followed by the presentation and small group break-out sessions on Zoom.  Youth Groups have been meeting online as well, and have been meeting outdoors – physically distanced – in our parking lot.

We will all be learning about and adapting to what it means to be the church in these times we cannot gather together in person.   I encourage everyone to be intentional about reaching out and calling others on the phone.  Call the church office with questions or to share concerns.

To continue our ministry in these changing circumstances requires the continued financial support of everyone in this family of faith. If you are not using Simply Giving or giving electronically online, please consider doing so now.  Click here for more information.  You may also mail in your offerings and donations. If you are not yet a sustaining member of St. Andrew’s I cannot think of a better time to step up and begin.  $10 a week can make a big difference.  And speaking of “stepping up” as some people have lost and may yet loose jobs or part of their income due to shutdowns and closings, and may not be able to give as much to their church,  hose who are not as impacted need to step up and give even more.  We are in this together.

We are being church remotely out of love and concern for the most vulnerable in our society, community and congregation: the elderly, the frail, and those with compromised immune systems.  We do not want to be a place or a people who contribute to the spread of the corona virus.  We want to be part of the solution.  For the sake of “the other” let’s all be safe.

~Pastor Dave
